Oils and acrylics, a self-taught search for essence

Batalla's painting practice began in 1991 as a personal, self-taught journey into introspection and abstraction. Organised in series — Stars (2014), Void (2016), Silence (2018), Spheres (2020) — his pictorial work explores universal concepts such as light, emptiness and matter through gesture and colour. Working primarily in oils and acrylics on canvas and wood, each series proposes a dialogue between the visible form and the invisible space that surrounds it.
